What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga is a unity of both mind and body practice. Not only on the mat but also affecting our behaviour off the mat too. Hatha Yoga is a lifestyle practice that people find benefits in in all areas of their lives. It has been improving the lives of others for as long as 5,000 years ago. Hatha Yoga uses the 8 limbs of yoga to help guide us through life spiritually; promoting kindness, mindful energy and truthfulness.

In a Hatha Yoga class we use poses called Asanas to improve both strength and flexibility. Regular practice of Hatha Yoga enhances strength, flexibility, and balance. The various asanas (postures) work on different muscle groups, promoting overall physical fitness.

Hatha Yoga is also a great stress relief, the mindful practice of Hatha Yoga helps reduce stress and anxiety. Focusing on breath and movement promotes relaxation and mental well-being.

A classical Hatha Yoga class will start with grounding, either seated or lying down. Bringing your awareness to your body and a reminder to be present in the moment. Following this will be some mobilisation of the joints before practicing various Asanas; including balances and gentle flows (such as sun or moon salutation). You may then practice some breathing techniques called pranayama before finishing with Savasana (relaxation laying on the mat) or seated Meditation.
